Parent/teacher conferences will be starting next week. Please check your child's daily folder for information about signing up for a conference. I am looking forward to meeting with you soon!
In reading, we have been working on building up our independent reading time. We have been challenging Mrs. Rodgers' class and as of today they are one minute ahead of us...but we WILL catch up! We are able to read silently for 10 minutes, but we won't stay on 10 minutes for long-we will be adding a minute or two each day. It is amazing to see the children concentrate on reading in their notebooks or little books. They are able to whisper read with a reading beanie buddy and today they used reading "phones". Not one single person had to put their buddy to bed or hang up their phone. Good job class!!!
In writing, we will continue to add details to our pictures and to add labels to help us with beginning sounds. We are also working on stretching out our words by "turtle talking" slowly so we hear all the sounds in a word that we need to write. We are also trying to use sight words in our sentences. Please help your child sound out words at home for extra practice.
In math, we studied 2D shapes last week and this week we are learning about 3D shapes. We will take a shape walk this week to explore various shapes in our school.
In science, we will continue to study fall. It was nice that the weather was a little cooler on the first day of fall, even if it was only for one day.
Remember, if you want to order books from Scholastic, book orders are due on Thursday.
