We have been enjoying our measurement unit. The other day, we went outside and each of us took turns rolling a wooden truck. We measured the distance the truck rolled using yarn. Then, we had to find someone that had yarn shorter than, longer than or the same as their yarn. Today, we created a "snowball" and tossed it. We decided which snowball went the longest, shortest or the same distance.
Yesterday, Mrs. Rollans came in to teach a computer lesson on the new notebooks. The students did a fabulous job! They were able to explore on Starfall.com.
Reading books will not be sent home this week due to district testing. Reading groups will resume once testing is completed.
For the next couple of weeks we will focus on:
o Measurement- We will identify and directly compare the attributes of length, area and temperature. Students will use comparative language (longer than, shorter than, covers more, covers less) to explain their thinking.
o Science- We will be observing, describing and illustrating the sun, moon, stars and clouds.
o Writing-- We will continue to write personal stories which include a beginning, middle and end. Our writing will also include information that we have learned about the sun, moon and stars.
o Reading-
* Predict what happens next in text based o based on the cover, title and illustrations.
* Ask and respond to questions about books read aloud
* Discuss the purpose for reading
* Retell important events in stories
